Kathi Ryan, Life As Art Inspired Creations

The first pieces were created in the spring of 2016 when I returned to Nova Scotia after a winter away in Baja where I purchased the backdrop of these pieces. The lacy and solid canvas that you see here is hand-made bark paper from mainland Mexico where people have been making this paper in small villages for generations. As soon as I saw the paper I knew it would be a perfect way to change the style of my wall hangings, which, prior to this, were actual hangings where a piece of bamboo, willow or driftwood was used to hang my work. This new style allows for framing making it more accessible to a variety of people. Whatever color mat board one chooses will come through the paper to give you the look and color scheme you desire. These pictures are taken prior to that final step of customizing the mat and framing.

My work is now being carried in the Down to Earth Art Gallery in Antigonish, Nova Scotia. I look forward to returning in the spring and seeing where my inspiration takes me.
